2010 Open Water season starts in April
Continue the Creeker tradition of challenging oneself and start making your plans now to participate in the 2010 Pacific Masters sanctioned open water swims. Remember-“Open Water/Open Minds”. If you are new to open water talk yourself into giving it a try! If you are a veteran continue to have fun, lead the way and support The Creek! Get a group together and turn some of these swims into fun social events!
2010 Schedule-This year there are 18 different open water events (more if you count the events that have more than one race distance). The complete schedule, including meet sheets, and in some cases on-line entry links can be accessed at www.openwaterpacific.org.
New Events-One new event this year is the very first open water swim of the season, on Sunday April 25, at Shadow Cliffs in Livermore. Another new event is at the UVAS Reservoir in Morgan Hill on Sunday July 25.
Also, Pacific Masters is sponsoring open water swim clinics for experienced open water swimmers on Sunday May 2 and for novice open water swimmers on Sunday July 25. Both events will be held at Shadow Cliffs in Pleasanton.
Team Picnic-We're hoping for large turnouts of WCM swimmers at many events this year. We will again host a Team Picnic at the June 6 Lake Del Valle Open Water Long Distance National Championship. We will be gathering at the same picnic location as last year. The following Saturday, June 12 is the Lake Berryessa event, which always draws a large crowd. We plan to repeat our Community Food Table/Pot Luck at the Berryessa picnic area. If you have any questions about these events, you may contact B.J. Henry at bjmaryus@astound.net or Mike Piazza at mpiazza1@ix.netcom.com We will try to keep the information flowing as we get into this year's season. Remember: Open Water / Open Minds."
